Baby is a gorgeous orange tabby long haired male whose owner is giving him up because she is moving to a dorm to go back to school. Baby is very sweet and playful, but he does not like the adoption fairs so please contact Esther (his current owner) directly if you would like to meet him (fill out an application online and it will be emailed to her).
Tips for Caring for Baby
- Baby understands words such as “come up (when you want him to jump on your lap) and “no.” But his favorite words are, “Do you want some treats?” He loves to hear this and he will always respond if you say this. I usually give him only two treats a day.
- He eats maybe half a cup of dry cat food a day. I feed him a little bit in the morning and then later in the afternoon. Total food intake per day is half a cup. He’s not a big eater and I’ve always portioned his food since he was a kitten. He drinks a lot of water!!! Sometimes I catch him guzzling water and will tell him “that’s enough” and then he will stop.
- Baby loves to play!! He loves toy mice wrapped in rabbit fur. He also likes to play with a stick with the string on the end. He will chase the string like crazy. Believe it or not, when Baby wants to play, he will drag the stick/string in his mouth and drop it right in front of me (as a hint that he wants to play). It’s funny because I thought only dogs brought their leashes to their owners as a hint that they want to go outside. He also likes it if you crumple a small piece of paper into a ball and throw it across the room. He will chase after it and even bring it back to you more than half of the time.
- Another thing that Baby does that reminds me of a dog is that he likes to play fetch!
- Baby has a bad habit of begging for food when I am cooking in the kitchen. Not that he is hungry but he just loves to taste foods that I’m cooking. For some odd reason he likes to eat spaghetti noodles and pasta. So I will give him one or two when I’m cooking something that he likes to eat.
- Baby does well with other cats but it takes him a week or two to adjust. I had a roommate who had a cat. It took him a week to adjust and then he loved the cat and followed him everywhere and tried to always play with him (much to his annoyance). When I moved out of that place, Baby missed that other cat so much he was looking for him when I moved into my new place.
- Baby hates collars! When he was a kitten I tried putting a collar on him and he became very depressed.
- Baby is good about not scratching furniture (unless he sees another cat doing it and he will copy). He likes those flat cardboard cat scratchers. He likes catnip but he isn’t crazy about it. He can take it or leave it.
